We've been catching peacock bass also this summer with about four nice trips to the Miami canals. South Florida is full of canals that are loaded with peacock bass and largemouth bass. We have the Everglades and Lake Okeechobee that have some of the finest freshwater bass fishing in the world in the winter. It's been good bass despite the hot rainy weather South Florida has been experincing. Usually high hot water will slow down our fishing until November or December. Some tournaments have been producing good numbers out on alligator alley in the Florida Everglades. Last week we were out fun fishing and boated twelve largemouth bass in a few hours with this beauty right at five pounds. Peacock bass fishing remains good usually through out the year and we've had some nice trips to Miami lately. Winter is coming so make plans now to visit South Florida and fish the only place in America to catch the butterfly peacock bass or largemouth bass the same day.

Peacock Bass and Largemouth Bass fishing in South Florida will be good now that colder nights are gone. Cold nights have kept fishing slow are the last few months but that's all changing now. The Florida Everglades bass fishing Ft. Lauderdale is red hot right now. On Tuesday off of alligator we boated over 70 largemouth bass up to 4 lbs. Every time out lately has produced decent fishing numbers and size. Water levels are coming down slowly along with the water temperatures putting the largemouth into the pre-spawn. It's an early season for the Everglades because usually we have to wait until early spring for lower water conditions for this good of fishing. We've had three trips this month and they've been quite successful. On Tuesday I had Heather & Tim Gray along with their friend Scott Eynon for 6 hours of peacock bass fishing in South Florida near Miami. The canals are still a little cold making the fishing slower this week than the weeks earlier. All it takes for great fishing is steady warm weather which will put the Peacock Bass into the spawning mode. Peacock Bass fishing in Miami is good year round and lately we've had three guided trips that were quite productive. Friday November 14th we had Jim Boone from Birmingham, Alabama and he landed 13 peacocks all on shiners. The Everglades Bass fishing will be starting soon as the water levels will begin to drop. Our high rainy season fills up the Everglades swamp system and the largemouth bass scatter throughout the flats. The process then reverses itself in springtime and the bass retreat to the depths of the canals which makes fishing much easier. Yesterday we fished the Holy Land wildlife refuge and caught about 20 small bass up to 5 1/2 lbs. all on the plastic baits. South Florida is the only place in America to catch peacock bass. Miami has the best canals that are full of these beautiful butterfly peacocks. On Saturday I had a guided trip with Carl Gaudins of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Carl and I landed 7 peacock bass up to 4 lbs. mostly on small shiners. What was exciting was the few big male peacock bass I saw courting females this late into the year. We usually don't see this until early spring when the water temperatures warm a little. South Florida is still producing good peacock bass fishing in Miami. We had a guide trip on Saturday and landed 12 peacock bass up to 4 lbs. All our fish were caught on shiners. The water conditions were good with levels dropping and quite clean for this time of year. As the water temperatures cool off and recede conditions will improve for Everglades Bass fishing along with Lake Okeechobee. Three years of low lake levels have taken off fishing pressure on bass on Lake Okeechobee and should make for a great fishing this winter and spring. Last week Scott & Steven Eynon were out with us for a six hour peacock bass trip to Miami. We landed 16 fish all on shiners except one. Scott had a monster on but lost it under a tree. We've been out quite a bit over the last two months and have had great success for this late into the summer. The last report of the big largemouth bass you see below was caught the same day by another angler who needed a picture. She weighed in at 10+ lbs. Our biggest peacock for the day was about 3 lbs. but as you can see the camera man and fisherman sure know how to make them look bigger. How about this beautful 10 lb. bass that Chip Timmons caught in a South Florida canal down near Miami on Wednesday August 6, 2008. Chip didn't have a good camera or scale when he approached us on the water. We had both and took care of the memories for Chip that will last a lifetime. We were peacock bass fishing and had landed 16 before we ran out of bait. When Chip first pulled out this fish it looked about 12 or 13 lbs! Luckily the boga grips never lie or we would have said it was 15 pounds! Peacock bass fishing in Miami continues to amaze me how good it still is despite heavy thunderstorms lately. Ed Cohn and I were out Thursday July 22 for a half-day trip and he landed 12 peacock bass up to 4 1/4 lbs all on live shiners. The fish are still active and feeding well and we are seeing them everywhere. The South Florida Peacock Bass fishing is still doing quite good considering heavy showers and thunderstorms lately which usually shuts down the fishing. The heavy pumping of water lowers p.h. levels and oxygen which hurts the fishing. But today was a different story all together. Dan Paszynski and I fished Miami today and boated 26 peacock bass up to 5 1/2 lbs. Dan also landed 2 more over 4 lbs. to complete a great of fishing in the Miami canal system. Jim Kientzy and brother-in-law Dwayne from Missouri were out last Monday for some largemouth bass fishing in the Everglades. The guys boated 45 bass up to 3 lbs. The fishing for big fish in South Florida will slow down now that the rain is coming quite heavy now. Water oxygen and p.h. levels will get bad now which will stress the largemouth and they will get harder by the day to catch. It was off to snapper creek in Miami yesterday in which Lowell landed another 27 peacock bass and I caught 5 again. It was hot and the fish are starting to go deeper off the shallow springtime beds. We managed to figure out what they wanted and did quite well considering I haven't fished here in over a year. In two days Lowell landed 57 peacock bass himself and I boated 10. It's still great fishing in South Florida for all bass species right now. Peacock bass fishing in South Florida is great now even with this hot weather. Lowell Shapley from Houston, Texas and I were out today in Miami and caught 35 peacocks up to 5 lbs. Tomorrow we are heading back to the canals of Miami and we should catch the fish just as well. Hot weather is good for peacock bass and they should be biting all summer long on lures and shiners. The bass fishing in South Florida remains great now until the heavy hurricane rainy season arrives. It's starting to rain now but as long as it's not too heavy the bass fishing will stay good. At Holiday Park just west of Ft. Lauderdale on Tuesday May 27th we landed 64 largemouth up to 4 1/2 lbs. all on plastic baits. May fishing in South Florida has been awesome so far for Peacock Bass and Largemouth Bass in the Miami canals and the Florida Everglades canal system. The first week of May we were out multiple times for peacocks and largemouth. On one trip to the everglades we landed about 45 bass to 4 lbs. and another trip a few days later we boated 33 bass to 4 lbs. also. We had three peacock bass trips and caught two trophy fish at 5 and 6 lbs. With the water levels dropping fishing will only get better each day until the heavy summer rains begin within the next two to three months. To start off the week of May 19th we landed 76 largemouth bass today in the South Florida Everglades. The water was clear and hot and very windy. Most of these fish were on the small side today but we had many bigger fish come up after our baits. Long casts are in order in these clear water canals this time of year. I bet we missed about as many and could of easily boated 150 or more. It's getting better daily buit shouldn't last much longer if this water doesn't cool down with a little rain.

South Florida Bass & Peacock Bass (April 2008)

It's been a great month of bass fishing in the Florida Everglades. We've been catching usually 40 to 60 bass per outing. Most of these fish have been caught on plastic worm style baits and no shiners. The key to catching these fish is waiting for the clouds and wind to pick up later in the morning or early afternoon. The water clarity is quite good this time of year and if you're using any surface type baits these fish will usually turn away from your presentation. Unusually long casts help to mask your boat from being seen. If your fishing deep with worms or senko's the long casts aren't as necessary.

We've had quite a few trips for largemouth bass this month with some of repeat customers for different parts of the country. A few highlight trips were Hugh & Ruth Spegiel from Tennessee and Scott Jungmichael and his buudy Chris from San Antonio, Texas. Hugh and Ruth in three days of fishing landed about 170 bass and peacock from Miami and Ft. Lauderdale canals. Scott and Chris had a great day catching peacock bass in Miami landing a 6 lb. and 5 lb. fish and totaling 26 fish for the day.
