South Florida is the only place in America to catch peacock bass. Miami has the best canals that are full of these beautiful butterfly peacocks. On Saturday I had a guided trip with Carl Gaudins of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Carl and I landed 7 peacock bass up to 4 lbs. mostly on small shiners. What was exciting was the few big male peacock bass I saw courting females this late into the year. We usually don't see this until early spring when the water temperatures warm a little.
